SPRINGFIELD, VA. — ENSCO, Inc. (www.ensco.com), a diversified research, development and information technology company, announced today that it has been awarded a $9 million contract from the Federal Railroad Administration to design, engineer and test two vehicles for the Federal Railroad Administration’s Automated Track Inspection Program (ATIP).

ENSCO is one of the premier providers of rail safety technologies; the Federal Railroad Administration (FRA) has selected ENSCO and its suite of interconnected products and services for several decades. ENSCO is proud to provide safety assurance and operational efficiency for rail throughout the United States.

This specific contract follows the 2001 award by the FRA Office of Safety to build the FRA T2000, a self-propelled and fully automated track inspection vehicle. In 2003, FRA contracted ENSCO to refurbish an Amtrak Coach vehicle which became the R&D high speed vehicle, FRA T16, which brought advanced monitoring technologies to rail safety. Since their installation, these vehicles have traveled thousands of miles and collected an enormous amount of data for the FRA.

The contract awarded is to build two highly customized vehicles which would employ ENSCO’s latest rail safety innovations.

“We feel tremendously honored to have been selected by the FRA to build two more track inspection vehicles. We take great pride in this line of work, our company has been providing rail safety technologies for over 30 years,” said Kevin Kesler, ENSCO’s Deputy Division Manager and director of rail programs. “Our next two cars will incorporate not only the previous innovations seen in the T2000, T16 and T-18, but all of our new technologies as well.”
