FRESNO, Calif. — The Federal Railroad Administration’s “safety train” rolled through Fresno on Tuesday. The self-propelled, 106-ton vehicle is one of five traveling on railroad main lines across the U.S. for the FRA’s Automated Track Inspection Program. The vehicle contains an array of instruments and sensors to measure the alignment of the steel rails, track quality, wear and tear and other safety factors. It also has a kitchen, a computer room and seating for 19 people in addition to the engineer.
