SAN FRANCISCO — Bay Area residents can take a ride on the Freedom Train Monday, as Caltrain gears up for this year’s Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Celebration.
According to Caltrain, in addition to operating its regular weekday service on Monday, it will also take celebration revelers to San Francisco on its 21st annual Freedom Train.
The train is scheduled to depart San Jose’s Diridon Caltrain Station at 10:00 a.m., with stops at the Sunnyvale station at 10:15 a.m., the Palo Alto Station at 10:34 a.m., and the San Mateo Station at 10:57 a.m., Caltrain reported.
The train will make its final stop in San Francisco at 11:25 a.m., Caltrain reported.
After arriving at San Francisco’s Caltrain Station at Fourth and King streets, Freedom Train passengers will take buses to the celebration at the San Francisco Civic Center, Caltrain reported.
According to Caltrain, the bus ride will be in honor of civil rights activist Rosa Parks who died on Oct. 24 at the age of 92.
Tickets for the Freedom Train cost $5 and can be purchased in advance through the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Association of Santa Clara Valley or at special ticket stands at the stations the train will be making stops at on Monday, Caltrain reported.
Once the celebration in San Francisco is completed buses will be on hand to take people back to the train station, Caltrain reported.
