Leaders of the Class I freight rail companies seem to agree they must repair rifts with their employees, customers and the communities they serve in order to usher in “a new era in railroading.” According to a report from Freight Waves, during the recent North American Rail Shippers conference in Chicago, CSX CEO Joe Hinrics said: “What’s it costing us to have our employees not motivated, our employees mad and our employees quitting and leaving? They treat you like crap, you should leave, [and] by the way, they want to get rid of you.’ That’s the environment that we have had and we have to break out of it.”
