EAST HARTFORD, Conn. — Police and firefighters in East Hartford responded a minor freight train derailment.
No injuries were being reported. The accident happened about 3 p.m. Monday.
The Department of Environmental Protection was called in because the fuel had to be transferred from the engine to prevent a possible diesel fuel spill.
Police say the train derailed near Tolland Street in an area where it typically travels slow.
East Hartford Assistant Fire Chief William Perez says that a piece of track apparently snapped causing the derailment. The train is owned by Connecticut Southern Railroad.
