PARIS — Train travelers faced delays in parts of France on Monday and national carrier Air France braced for disruptions on domestic and European flights as employees planned a series of strikes.
Air France said flights should be running “next to normal” Tuesday despite the job action but an estimated 10 percent of flights could be canceled the following two days.
Nine unions representing Air France staff have called on members to stay off the job Tuesday, when a bill was to be presented to the National Assembly on the airline’s privatization program.
A separate strike called for Wednesday and Thursday over salary negotiations was expected to effect an estimated 10 percent of flights in France and to European points, the airline said.
Meanwhile, a third of the trains between Paris and the eastern points of Strasbourg and Mulhouse in France and Basel, Switzerland, were canceled due to a 24-hour strike called by railway workers.
Elsewhere, engineers that staff regional trains in western Bordeaux called a separate strike following a Sunday attack on two of their colleagues. Only one in three trains on that line was running Monday.
