MONHEIM ANDREW “ANDY”
Age 54, of Plum Boro, on Tuesday, March 16, 2010 in a tragic accident.

Husband of his love of over 30 years, Lydia (Kerr) Monheim. Devoted father of David William Andrew Monheim. Son of David and Marie (DeLeo) Monheim. Brother of David Monheim, Dona (Robert) Hawkins, Joann (Gary) Benoit, Harry (Janet) Monheim, Gerhard (Joyce) Monheim and Trudy (John) Lerew. Son-in-law of Muriel and the late William Kerr. Brother- in-law of Robin (Vernon) Short and Deborah (Richard) Pierce. Also survived by many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.

Andy was hired on at the Union Railroad in 1976 and worked in the maintenence of equipment department at the Hall Roundhouse in Monroeville. He entered the program for apprentice engineers in 1978. He was promoted that same year as a locomotive engineer and proudly worked in that position for 34 years. He was also a member of the Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers and Trainmen, Division 700.

Andy made many friends on the Railroad and will be sadly missed by his brothers there.

He graduated from Penn Hills High School in 1973 and went on to earn Associates Degrees in Physics and Astronomy at CCAC Boyce Campus. He was pursuing a Bachelors Degree in Astronomy at the University of Pittsburgh before returning to work at the Railroad. Although he proudly worked for the Railroad, Andy always had an interest in pursuing astronomy.

Later in life, Andy developed a passion for golf which he enjoyed with friends and his son, David. Andy, Lydia and David were avid animal lovers and have had various beloved pets over the years. Andy loved spending time with his family, both immediate and extended, but especially with his son, David, who loves and misses him very much.

Friends received Thursday and Friday 2-4 & 7-9pm SOXMAN FUNERAL HOMES, LTD./ROTH CHAPEL, 7450 Saltsburg Road (at Universal Road) Penn Hills, 412-793-3000. Reverend Frank DeLuce will preside over a funeral service, on Saturday at 11:00am at Unity: A Community Church, 215 Unity Center Road, Pgh., PA 15239, 412-793-6266. Interment Plum Creek Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Animal Protectors, 533 Linden Ave., New Kensington, PA 15068, 724-339-7388.
