GALESBURG, Ill. — Local officials remain concerned about recent changes Amtrak made to its long-distance rail service and how they could impact Galesburg. In a speech Galesburg Mayor John Pritchard made Saturday at Galesburg’s Amtrak station in support of long-distance rail, Pritchard noted that the corporation will eliminate attendants at 15 stations that serve long-distance routes. Those included the station at Fort Madison, Iowa, the stop right after Galesburg on the Southwest Chief line. Amtrak also pledged to eliminate hot meal service on its Capitol Limited and Lake Shore Limited trains starting June 1.
