ERIE, Pa. — GE Transportation’s reach continues to grow. The company has been doing business for years with the former Soviet state of Kazakhstan, including a joint venture announced in December to produce up to 400 diesel engines a year. One of GE’s partners in the region had even agreed to supply engines and other parts to a Russian customer. But now, for the first time, GE Transportation is eyeing a deal to directly supply equipment and expertise to a Russian railroad.
