WASHINGTON, D.C. — Genesee & Wyoming Inc., a regional freight railroad operator, spent $180,000 lobbying in the first quarter on issues affecting the rail industry, according to a recent disclosure report.

The Greenwich, Conn.-based company lobbied on legislation related to railroad safety, investment, competition and service improvement, and rail infrastructure, according to the report filed April 16 with the House clerk’s office.

Genesee & Wyoming operates short-line and regional freight railroads in the U.S., Canada, Australia and the Netherlands. It provides rail service at 16 ports in North America and Europe.

Besides Congress, the company lobbied the Federal Railroad Administration, Federal Highway Administration, Transportation Safety Administration and the Coast Guard in the first three months of the year.
