TORONTO — GO Transit’s rail service is expected to be fully restored later today after Monday’s freight train derailment.

GO offered reduced service between Hamilton and Burlington this morning, with trains departing from Hamilton at 6:14, 6:34, and 7:04 a.m. and stopping in Aldershot at 6:29, 6:49, and 7:19 a.m.

All other eastbound trains heading for Toronto left from the Burlington GO station.

GO will continue to offer shuttle bus service between Hamilton and Burlington.

Full service is expected to be restored by mid-morning.

A broken wheel on a freight train is believed to have caused 19 cars and tankers to fly off the tracks about 1 a.m. Monday.

The crash occurred just east of the Aldershot GO station, near the King Rd. rail crossing, when some cars on an eastbound freight – with three locomotives and 139 rail cars – separated and went off the track.
