RENSSELAER, N.Y. — The Republican National Convention in New York City this week apparently has deterred upstate train riders from traveling downstate.
Officials say ridership on the Empire Corridor trains between the Albany area and New York City is down 50 percent in recent days.
The corridor’s general manager says tight security may have discouraged people from riding the train.
Passengers were required to make reservations this week and their baggage were subject to search.
The GOP convention ended last night with President Bush accepting the party’s nomination to run for a second-term. Governor Pataki was on hand to introduce the president.
