DOUGHERTY, Okla. — A grain train derailed in southern Oklahoma, sending 20 railroad cars off the track and disrupting passenger train service.
The Burlington Northern Santa Fe train, which was enroute from Waverly, Ill., to Eagle Pass, Texas, derailed at 9:30 p.m. Wednesday near this small town about 80 miles south of Oklahoma City, said Joe Faust, spokesman for the railroad company.
Nobody was injured and there was no fire. No hazardous material was released. One of the derailed cars was empty and the rest carried grain.
The tracks were expected to be cleared by Thursday evening, allowing Amtrak and freight train service to resume through the area.
