Early on the morning of January 6, 2005, a 42-car Norfolk Southern train crashed into two locomotives and two rail cars in Graniteville, S.C. The freight train was carrying more than 250 tons of toxic chlorine gas, which was released in the crash.
Nine people died as a result of the toxic fumes — including BLET member Chris Seeling — and more than 250 people were sent to hospitals and about 5,400 people were evacuated.
Members of the Graniteville community held a memorial service on the sixth anniversary of the devastating accident. Click here for the full story.
