MODESTO, Calif. — Firefighters spent almost three hours today putting out a 5-acre grass fire just east of Modesto near the Amtrak train station.

The fire was reported about 10:45 a.m. and started in the area of Santa Fe Avenue and Parker Road, said Fire Battalion Chief Dan Hinshaw.

He said the flames did not threaten any structures, and no injuries were reported.

Firefighters were at the scene until about 1:30 p.m. putting out smoldering spots in the grass. The fire’s cause had not been determined.
