WILMINGTON, OH – The Center for American Progress has identified areas of “green” infrastructure needing immediate investment. It also has identified the types of jobs associated with each of the sectors. Energize Clinton County included the following information in their press kit.

The six green sectors identified by the Center for American Progress are: retrofitting of buildings, mass transit and/or rail freight, smart grid, wind power, solar power, and advanced biofuels.

For the area of retrofitting, representative jobs include electricians, heating/air conditioning installers, carpenters, construction equipment operators, roofers, insulation workers, carpenter helpers, industrial truck drivers, construction managers and building inspectors.

In the area of mass transit and/or rail freight, representative jobs include civil engineers, rail track layers, electricians, welders, metal fabricators, engine assemblers, bus drivers, dispatchers, locomotive engineers and railroad conductors.

For the area of smart grid, representative jobs include computer software engineers, electrical engineers, electrical equipment assemblers, electrical equipment technicians, machinists, team assemblers, construction laborers, operating engineers, electrical power line installers and repairers.

In the area of wind power, representative jobs include environmental engineers, iron and steel workers, millwrights, sheet metal workers, machinists, electrical equipment assemblers, construction equipment operators, industrial truck drivers, industrial production managers, and first-line production supervisors.

For the area of solar power, representative jobs include electrical engineers, electricians, industrial machinery mechanics, welders, metal fabricators, electrical equipment assemblers, construction equipment operators, installation helpers, laborers and construction managers.

And in the area of advanced biofuels, representative jobs include chemical engineers, chemists, chemical equipment operators, chemical technicians, mixing and blending machine operators, agricultural workers, industrial truck drivers, farm product purchasers, agricultural and forestry supervisors and agricultural inspectors.

The Energize Clinton County press kit says, “Wilmington‘s workforce already holds many of the skills required for the jobs identified, and others are ready for the green job retraining that will provide them with the skills needed to accelerate the development of these green industries.”

With a green workforce in place, Wilmington offers the opportunity to develop the firms and industries that will radiate across the state to fuel the attainment of Ohio’s green development goals, according to the press kit.
