WASHINGTON, D.C. — With the message that health care reform cannot wait, the Teamsters, in conjunction with a number of other groups, are encouraging their members to contact their members of the U.S. House of Representatives on Tuesday, July 28, and urge them to support H.R. 3200, the health care reform proposal.
H.R. 3200, which has been marked up and will be on the floor of the House after the August recess by most projections, will insure many of the 45 million Americans not currently insured and will, in turn, decrease costs for all Americans. The legislation, which was introduced by Representative John Dingell (D-MI), would provide affordable, quality health care for all Americans and reduce the growth in health care spending.
The legislation would establish a mandate for legal residents to obtain health insurance; set up insurance “exchanges” through which some individuals and families could receive subsidies to substantially reduce the cost of purchasing insurance; significantly expand eligibility for Medicaid; make modifications to the Medicare and Medicaid programs; and impose an income-tax surcharge on wealthiest 1.2 percent of Americans.
As the Teamsters are tracking the calls to Representatives with the goal of 50,000 calls, please contact your member of Congress through the following method, as opposed to calling direct: call 1-877-264-4226; press 2 to be connected to your Representative.
