WASHINGTON — MARC riders should allow themselves extra commuting time again Wednesday.

With temperatures set to reach 90 degrees, CSX is slowing down trains using its tracks for the third day running.

The slow-downs will start after 1 pm and will cause delays of ten to 35 minutes on all MARC trains, depending on the the length of the trip and the number of stops.

The trains will operate 20 miles per hour under their normal speeds, but not less than 40 miles per hour.

CSX is slowing the trains down to avoid accidents that can occur when heat expands the rails. Train 877 to Martinsburg is expected to be held up the longest.

The rail network says inspectors will be out on the tracks searching for problems that may cause additional delays.
