DETROIT — Teamster General President Jim Hoffa pounded the pavement today across the Detroit metro area, encouraging hundreds of members to exercise their right to vote in tomorrow’s election.

Hoffa met with workers at USF Holland, DHL and Pallard Printing to help educate members on the importance of voting for candidates that will fight for their concerns.

“There’s a fight going on not only here in Michigan, but across the country,” Hoffa said. “We can’t allow candidates that will continue this war on workers to be elected. The greatest weapon we have is our numbers — when we turn out to vote, we win.”

Teamsters members at every worksite echoed Hoffa’s message, pledging to not only vote, but promising to encourage their friends and family to turn out at the polls tomorrow.

“I voted last week, and my whole family voted by absentee,” said Neil Pettit, a member of Local 299 and a fourth-generation Teamster who works as a fork truck driver at USF Holland, “I was out knocking on doors in Canton last week to get the vote out. Obviously this election is important, we need to get good politicians in that best represent the workers.”
