WALLED LAKE, Mich. — A passenger train carrying Valentine’s Day diners derailed in snowy weather Wednesday night, police said. No injuries were reported.

Four of the Michigan Star Clipper Dinner Train’s passenger cars slid off the tracks about 10:30 p.m. when operators flipped a snow-covered switch that wouldn’t function, Walled Lake police said.

An unknown number of passengers on the “Sweetheart Express” were escorted off.

It was unclear how fast the train — which was on a three-hour trip through suburban Detroit’s Oakland County — had been going.

The Valentine’s Day special included live entertainment and a five-course dinner and cost $85 per person.
