(The BLET’s National Legislative Office issued the following on October 25.)

WASHINGTON, D.C. — BLET Vice President and National Legislative Representative John Tolman will testify this morning before the House Transportation & Infrastructure Committee, along with several railroad workers, regarding the impact of railroad injury, accident reporting, and discipline policies on rail safety.

The purpose of this hearing is to examine allegations included in hundreds of reports from rail employees that were collected and reviewed by the committee staff suggesting that railroad safety management programs sometimes either subtly or overtly intimidate employees from reporting on-the-job injuries.

The railroad workers who are testifying have all experienced harassment and intimidation after being injured on the job. All were fired from railroad service.
