Deep budget cuts that House Republicans are drafting would slash Amtrak and high-speed rail projects, casting doubt on whether the current Congress would “investing” in new rail projects, including a Hudson River tunnel.

The $224 million from Amtrak operations and $1 billion from high-speed rail were among $13.8 billion in cuts to 70 programs announced Wednesday by House Appropriations Committee Chairman Hal Rogers, R-Ky.
