WASHINGTON, D.C. — The House Transportation railroads subcommittee is holding a hearing Thursday on positive train control with top officials from FRA, NTSB, Amtrak and more. There are 109 days between Thursday and the deadline to have PTC running, absent an extension. FRA Administrator Ron Batory is likely to go over the most recent data his agency has on how far along railroads are in implementing PTC. As of midway through the year, nine railroads were on FRA’s “at-risk” list. Batory also will probably point out that the agency distributed more than $200 million in funding for PTC projects last month. He may discuss FRA’s penalties for those that haven’t hit PTC benchmarks, and lawmakers could ask about exemptions.
