CAMP WASHINGTON, Ohio — A rail car vented hydrochloric acid vapor Wednesday night at the CSX rail yard near Geringer Street.
Police received the call about 10:10 p.m. Ten fire units responded and found two people who had breathed in fumes.
They were evaluated and taken to Good Samaritan Hospital, where their conditions were not known.
No evacuations were ordered, and nearby areas that were blocked off reopened just after 11 p.m. Hazardous materials crews were also at the scene.
Hydrochloric acid has many industrial uses and is corrosive to the eyes, skin and mucous membranes. Short-term inhalation may cause eye, nose and respiratory tract irritation and inflammation and pulmonary edema.
