Emergency responders used hydraulic jacks to free a man pinned under a 221,000-pound grain car Thursday morning in the Burlington Northern Santa Fe Railway yard in Willmar.

According to a statement issued by BNSF Thursday afternoon, “a BNSF Railway employee sustained severe injuries to his legs while switching rail cars at the BNSF facility in Willmar. The employee was airlifted to St. Cloud Hospital. BNSF Railway is continuing to investigate the incident.”

The man, described as in his mid-30s, suffered severe injuries to his legs after he was pinned between two rail cars, according to the West Central Tribune newspaper.

The man’s name has not been released and officials declined to give further information on his injuries.
