RIVERSIDE, Calif. — A Union Pacific employee was recovering from surgery Saturday, a day after being trapped underneath a derailed 30-ton rail car in Mira Loma.
John Bromley, a spokesman for Union Pacific, said the man suffered a broken leg and a broken arm.
He would not release the injured man’s name.
Two cars derailed at about 5:45 p.m. Friday in an industrial yard near Etiwanda Avenue and Iberia Street. Five cars had rolled free toward a group of stationary cars during a switching operation, Bromley said.
Another Union Pacific employee managed to jump from one of the cars before the collision and was not injured, Bromley said.
