NEW HAVEN, Conn. — Officials say three people were injured in a minor accident involving a Shore Line East commuter train.

The incident occurred Wednesday afternoon just west of Guilford when the train’s engine disconnected from a passenger car and then bumped it.

Representatives of the state Department of Transportation and Amtrak say three people were hurt, but that they did not know the extent of the injuries.

The train was heading to Old Saybrook and carrying about 80 passengers, who were moved to another train.

Amtrak operates the commuter service on behalf of the state, which owns it.
