NORTH BERGEN, N.J. — The state Department of Community Affairs Friday has closed three trash transfer sites in Hudson County run by a railroad for fire safety violations.
The DCA cited the three locations — all in North Bergen and run by the New York Susquehanna & Western Railway Corp. — for not having sprinklers.
New Jersey officials, legislators and environmentalists have protested the sites, which they say allow garbage to
pile up and pose an environmental and health hazard to nearby areas. They say the sites should be subject to state regulations.
