STERLING, Ill. — Investigators are looking for the cause of a train derailment that caused 31 cars to go off the tracks near Galt, about 50 miles east of the Quad Cities.

The derailed cars were carrying lumber, tomatoes, potatoes, salt and other products.

No injuries were reported from yesterday’s accident, which involved a train heading east to Chicago from North Platte, Nebraska.

But Union Pacific spokesman Mark Davis says the accident heavily damaged a bridge and a temporary crossing will be put into place.
