LONDON — A train that’s a contender for being the most luxurious in the world set off on its maiden journey on Monday. The Train Suite Shiki-Shima left Ueno station in Tokyo with 33 passengers on board for a four-day tour of north-east Japan and the stunning island of Hokkaido. It’s due back at Ueno on Thursday. The exclusive Train Suite Shiki-Shima features two-storey suites, panoramic observation cars and was designed by an automobile expert behind various Porsche, Ferrari and Maserati models. The top suite sells for $10,000 (£7,700) per person for a four-day trip.
