PROVIDENCE — A federal judge has ordered Amtrak to pay $1.5 million to an East Providence real estate company, the Associated Press reported.
This week’s ruling should resolve a 5-year-old land rights dispute between Amtrak and Capital Properties.
Judge Ronald Lagueux ruled Amtrak did not adequately compensate Capital Properties when it took the land to build the Providence train station.
A spokesman said that Amtrak is considering whether to appeal.
Amtrak acquired land through eminent domain, paying a total of $1.3 million.
