MONTREAL — A Quebec Superior Court judge expressed sympathy for the people of Lac-Mégantic Thursday and chastised directors of a railway whose unmanned, oil-filled train crashed and exploded in the Eastern Townships village, killing 47 people and incinerating the downtown core.

“I’m not impressed at all by the behaviour of MMA and from the beginning of the process, its behaviour has been lamentable,” Justice Martin Castonguay said while accepting Montreal, Maine & Atlantic Railway’s motion for creditor protection in Canada and the U.S.
