KANSAS CITY, Mo. — A key U.S.-Mexico gateway for Kansas City Southern is expected to reopen this weekend.

Kansas City Southern de Mexico’s bridge line between Nuevo Laredo and Monterrey in Nuevo Leon was closed after being damaged from Hurricane Alex, which hit Mexico on June 30.

With service expected to be restored sometime this weekend, service embargoes imposed July 3 most likely will be lifted early next week.

The railroad said a secondary route in that area has reopened and diverted a limited amount of cross-border traffic. Trains are running at reduced speeds there.

Rail service has been disrupted for all carriers in northern Mexico due to the hurricane’s effects.
