KANSAS CITY, Mo. — This month, KCSM initiated a new Safety Friday program. KCSM gerencia de seguridad e higiene Franco Minghi explained that an in-depth analysis performed by his team found that more injuries occur early in the shift on Fridays, than any other time of the week. The new Safety Friday program seeks to reduce or eliminate these incidents by focusing Friday job briefings on best operating practices and safety rules compliance.

Minghi added that also this month, KCSM continues reminding Transportation, Mechanical and Engineering employees of the One Text or Call Could Wreck It All campaign launched in 2013. Its core message is to not allow electronic devices to become an unsafe distraction either on or off the job.

In second quarter, the Safety and Health team, in coordination with IT, will distribute 140 Bluetooth for mobile devices to Transportation, Mechanical and Engineering supervisors, as part of the One Text campaign. Also, in coordination with Engineering, defensive driving training will be provided to 53 vehicle operators on the Caltzontzin District to help prevent traffic accidents.

Last month, the KCSM Safety and Health team provided specialized training to superintendents, terminal superintendents and managers from the Transportation and Engineering departments to improve injury investigations and procedures to better determine root cause and prevent a reoccurrence of the action(s) that led to injury. KCSM complies with all state and federal regulations and civil protection plans for each terminal, including providing training for firefighting, search, rescue and evacuation.
