KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Freight railroad operator Kansas City Southern said Thursday it has named Michael W. Upchurch as executive vice president and chief financial officer, replacing current CFO Patrick J. Ottensmeyer.

Ottensmeyer, who has served in the role of CFO since May 2006, has been named as executive vice president of sales and marketing. The company did not offer a reason for the change. A call seeking comment was not immediately returned.

Upchurch has been senior vice president of financial management and purchasing since March 2008.

Amid a broader market sell-off, shares of Kansas City Southern fell $1.62, or 5.5 percent, to $27.61 in morning trading.
