KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Kansas City Southern said Monday that director Karen L. Pletz won’t seek re-election at the freight rail operator’s annual meeting in May.

The company said the decision was voluntary “and not a result of any disagreement.”

Pletz was fired in December as president of Kansas City University of Medicine and Biosciences. Trustees did not disclose the reason for Pletz’s firing, but said that if she sued the university, they would disclose the reason to the court.

Pletz has been a KCS director since 2004. Before becoming president and CEO of the university, she was an executive and attorney for a bank in Missouri.

Pletz’s term will end at the shareholder meeting scheduled for May 6.

Shares of Kansas City Southern dipped 12 cents to $30.15 in afternoon trading.
