KANSAS CITY — Two Kansas City Southern freight trains derailed Wednesday, sending 14 cars and their cargo of grain and lubricating oil off the tracks in western Louisiana.

The accident occurred in Converse, La., when 10 grain cars turned over as a train moved onto a siding, railroad spokeswoman Doniele Kane said. That caused the derailment of four cars carrying lubricating oil on another train, she said. None of the oil cars leaked, Kane said.

The mainline track was expected to reopen late Wednesday, with the siding to open sometime today, Kane said. The accident occurred 310 miles northwest of New Orleans.
