KANSAS CITY, Mo. — On October 9 and 10, an important delegation of business leaders from the Port of Brownsville, Texas visited KCS in Monterrey, Nuevo Leon. The port and KCS de Mexico visited many existing steel and bulk liquids customers in the Monterrey area and hosted a client appreciation dinner.
The Brownsville delegation was led by port director Eduardo Campirano and Brownsville Rio Grande International Railroad president and CEO Norma Torres.
A business review meeting was attended by KCS executive vice president sales and marketing Pat Ottensmeyer, vice president sales and marketing Steve Schollaert, assistant vice president sales and marketing Jennifer Fussell as well as KCS de Mexico director de ventas y mercadotecnia David Eaton and ejecutiva de ventas Yolanda Treviño.
As energy reform becomes a reality in Mexico, the Port of Brownsville will hold strategic importance for KCS, which will complement the current vigorous flow of steel and bulk liquids enjoyed today.
“Brownsville is one of North America’s premier sources for high quality steel scrap. For example, the U.S. Navy will be scrapping old aircraft carriers in Brownsville and this high quality scrap is valuable to Mexico’s growing steel industry. In the coming years, KCS will transport large volumes of scrap from Brownsville to steel mills in Monterrey and Saltillo,” said Treviño.
