Last week, Kansas City Southern executives met with Rosenberg, Texas, officials to discuss plans for a new intermodal facility on an 800-acre site in Fort Bend County between Rosenberg and Kendleton. In addition to the intermodal terminal, the site will include an integrated logistics campus featuring a 636-acre industrial park.
KCS officials told local leaders the Class I had selected CenterPoint Properties as development partner. KCS and CenterPoint plan to conduct more detailed discussions with Rosenberg officials on project development and master planning issues.
In the meantime, KCS last month began construction on the intermodal center’s first phase — a 3,500-foot intermodal track and associated parking and facilities, which should be completed sometime next month. Later phases might include up to four 8,500-foot tracks with associated facilities, KCS said.
KCS also continues to rehabilitate its line between Victoria and Rosenberg, Texas, to shorten a route into Mexico by about 70 mile, eliminate the need to operate trains over 160 miles of Union Pacific Railroad-controlled track and add capacity in south Texas.
KCS plans to complete work to Kendleton’s city limits by mid- to late April. Track construction through Kendleton will begin in mid-June. Rehabilitation of the entire line will be completed in late 2008 or early 2009.
