KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Kansas City Southern Railway announced today that the Federal Highway Administration had approved the railway’s proposed East Loop Bypass Project in Laredo, Texas.

It will be one of three Transportation Border Congestion Relief Program projects, designed to help states reduce border travel times and encourage trade and travel without compromising security.

“We are delighted with the … designation,” Warren K. Erdman, executive vice president for corporate affairs, said in a release. “This means that our East Loop Bypass Project in Laredo is one of only three priority border crossing projects in the United States to receive the government’s priority designation for accelerated review and support. The priority access to discretionary federal programs, including innovative financing, makes the designation extremely important and will help insure that the East Loop Bypass Project moves forward.”

The other projects are in San Diego and is Washington state at the Cascade Gateway.
