KANSAS CITY — Kansas City Southern said it would continue to fight allegations that it has overcharged customers.

The railroad responded to a study released Thursday by the American Chemistry Council, which said the five major railroads overcharged customers by more than $6.5 billion through fuel surcharges. An antitrust lawsuit on the issue has also been filed against the carriers.

Kansas City Southern “does not believe there is any merit to these lawsuits and has vigorously defended against these charges and will continue to do so,” the company said.
