RAYVILLE, La. — A train derailment this afternoon rendered a section of track in Richland Parish temporarily inoperable.

Terry Thompson with the Richland Parish Sheriff’s Office says a broken rail caused the second and third engine of a Kansas City Southern Railroad train to jump the track.

The derailment happened along U.S. 80 in front of A.N.R. Pipeline Compnay between Dunn and Holly Ridge.

Thompson says the train was not carrying hazardous material, but the Louisiana State Police HAZMAT team will survey the area to determine the amount of fuel and oil loss from the engine.

No one was reported injured.

Thompson says Kansas City Southern will hire a crew to clear the wreckage and repair the track.
