KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Railroad operator Kansas City Southern is bringing 129 new jobs to downtown Kansas City as it moves its customer service and dispatch centers from Louisiana this year.

In return, the company will receive about $3.5 million in tax credits under a Missouri state program that promotes job growth.

Chief Executive Officer Michael Haverty and Missouri Gov. Jay Nixon announced the plans Wednesday. The company said the customer service center is already operational, while the dispatch center will be phased in over the spring and summer. The centers were formerly in Shreveport.

Haverty said about 85 current employees are transferring to Kansas City to fill the jobs.
