On Aug. 31, Kansas City Southern de México S.A. de C.V. (KCSM) and chemical supplier Nitroamonia de Mexico S.A. de C.V. (Orica Ltd.) marked the opening of a jointly developed transload facility in Agua Nueva, Coahuila, Mexico.

The opening of the facility — which is designed to handle 64,800 tons, or 1,100 carloads, annually — highlights the “strategic importance” of the Old B line, which KCSM purchased from Ferrocarriles Nacionales de México in 2008, KCSM officials said in an item posted on the “KCS News” web page. The line covers 11.3 acres, including the new transload facility and an automotive facility in Encantada.

“KCSM has been working closely with Orica to develop plans and strategies to support their transportation needs,” said KCSM ejecutiva de ventas Linda Hernández in the news item.
