Kansas City Southern de México S.A. de C.V.’s (KCSM) transportation department is working with the railroad’s international service design team to update the transportation service plan.

The new plan will redistribute switching workload throughout KCSM’s network, helping to increase velocity and throughput, and reduce dwell time, Kansas City Southern officials said in an item posted on the “KCS News” Web page.

“The changes capitalize on the strengths of the larger terminals to minimize dwell at the smaller terminals, and reduce line-of-road train stops for intermediate terminal service,” they said.

KCSM expects the plan update to benefit other departments, as well. For example, the mechanical department will be better able to plan inbound and outbound inspection process, and the engineering department will better obtain “natural work windows” to minimize train delays, KCS officials said.

After the transportation service plan is updated, the transportation department will work with the sales and marketing department to develop “greater synergies” for customers, they said.
