RICHMOND, Va. — CSX Corporation today announced the election of Edward. J. (Ned) Kelly, III to its board of directors.

Kelly serves as president and chief executive officer of Mercantile Bankshares Corporation in Baltimore. Prior to assuming his current role in March 2001, Kelly held an array of senior positions with J.P. Morgan beginning in 1994 and was a partner at Davis Polk & Wardwell from 1988 to 1994 in Washington, D.C. After law school, he served as a law clerk to U.S. Supreme Court Justice William J. Brennan, Jr.

Kelly is also a member of the board of directors for Hartford Financial Services Group, Constellation Energy Group, The Adams Express Company and Petroleum & Resources Corporation. He serves on the board of trustees at the Baltimore Museum of Art, Johns Hopkins Medicine and Johns Hopkins University and on the board of governors of the American Stock Exchange.
