CLEVELAND, November 12 — Kevin Moore was elected by acclamation to his first term as General Chairman of the combined Springfield Terminal, Delaware & Hudson, St Lawrence & Atlantic, and Montreal Maine & Atlantic General Committee of Adjustment by the delegates in meetings on October 21. He will take office on January 1, 2009.

Brother Moore is a member of Division 191 (Lunenberg, Mass.). He first joined the Brotherhood on February 1, 1995.

“I look forward to serving the Brothers and facing the challenges that this office will bring,” Brother Moore said. “Thank you for your support in electing me to this position.”

The combined General Committee of Adjustment is composed of eight BLET Divisions representing approximately 190 members. The meetings took place at the Clarion Hotel in Albany, N.Y.

Current General Chairman John Brown, who is retiring from active duty after serving as an elected office of the BLET for more than 23 years, presided over the meeting.

In addition to General Chairman Moore, the delegates elected a full slate of officers including: Steve Vaughan of Division 311 as 1st Vice General Chairman; James Thomas of Division 87, 2nd Vice General Chairman; and Dean Santore of Division 112 as Alternate Vice General Chairman.

The delegates returned Bruce Cushing of Division 112 to the office of Secretary-Treasurer for his fourth full term.

During the course of the meetings, activity reports were read and Brother Cushing presented a financial report to Committee. The delegates considered several changes to their Bylaws.

National Vice President Mike Twombly represented the National Division at the meeting. He discussed FRA Emergency Order 26 regarding the use of wireless devices on locomotives, and the Rail Safety legislation recently enacted by the Congress and how it was expected to affect the Hours of Service.

At the close of the meeting, Vice President Twombly addressed the delegates assembled speaking of his close friendship with Brother Brown.

“Thank you, Brother Brown, for your selfless and faithful service throughout your 23 years as an elected Officer of this great organization,” Vice President Twombly said.
