U.S. Labor Secretary Hilda L. Solis on Monday commended a local branch of the Laborers’ International Union of North America here for training workers to get green jobs, part of an Obama administration effort to increase infrastructure spending.
LIUNA Local 1191 in Wayne, which began offering weatherization courses last year, is training workers to build environmentally friendly transportation systems, energy infrastructure and green buildings. The construction labor union also is training them to clean up contaminated waste sites.
