LAREDO, Texas — At last night’s city council meeting, discussions on the new rail bridge revealed the addition could bring billion dollars to the local economy.

Council member Doctor Michael Landeck says the 450-million dollar project will generate lots of money into our economy because having a railroad across two countries would create a vibrant economic industrial area for both Laredo and Nuevo Laredo.

And this is why, he says, council has to be more considerate to Kansas City Southern Rail Company, the ones funding the project:

“Because we are really asking the rail people who are building something on their own outside of city limits to please include us into their considerations so we can sit at a table so that in 10, 20, 30 years when the city grows out that far and we cross the railroads we will not have the same problems we’re hearing now in the background.”

That was indeed a train in the background, something people in the central Laredo area are accustomed to hearing.

At this time, council has not made a commitment to the rail bridge.
