LAREDO, Texas — A few city council members are making a big push to bring a new rail bridge to Laredo.

Councilman Gene Belmares will open up discussion on the topic at tomorrows council meeting.

The motion is co-sponsored by councilman Michael Landeck and calls for a resolution in support of the east loop bypass.

Kansas City Southern has already invested over 400 million dollars in the project.

“The department of transportation has listed them as a fast track project… we need to have a seat at the table … it could bring the jobs we’ve been looking for.”

The rail bridge would be located near Rio Bravo but Belmares says its not about pushing the rail system out of the city … its about giving the city an opportunity to expand and grow.
